The 2011 Oregon State Legislature approved HB 3681 that provides an additional method of school choice for Oregon students. Beginning with the 2012-2013 school year, students who want to attend a school in the Gresham-Barlow School District no longer need the consent of the resident district provided the district accepts the student through the "Open Enrollment" application process.

The Open Enrollment period is available to non-resident families for a short time only - March 1 - March 30, 2012.  The district has established the number of slots* available per school, grade, and/or program and will accept Open Enrollment applications under ORS 339.133(5)(b) for the 2012-13 school year as noted on the list below.

Priority will be given to students currently enrolled in the Gresham-Barlow School District on an inter-district transfer for the 2011-12 school year.  In addition, Open Enrollment slots are restricted to applicants who reside in school districts within Multnomah County, or the Oregon Trail and North Clackamas school districts in Clackamas County.  If there are more non-resident students applying than slots available, the district will enter the students into an equitable lottery for selection.

The parent will be responsible for transportation to and from school unless otherwise specified.

The district will make decisions regarding Open Enrollment application requests by May 1, 2012.  After April 1, the standard inter-district transfer request process will be followed.  Parents will need to contact their resident school district and fill out an Inter-District Transfer Request form.  Inter-District transfers are not guaranteed from year to year.
